Crypto Torture Suspect John Woeltz Posts $1 Million Bond
John Woeltz, one of two men accused of torturing a cryptocurrency investor and holding him hostage in New York City in May, has been released on $1 million bail. The decision was made by Judge Gregory Carro amid an ongoing evidence review. Woeltz, dubbed the 'Crypto King of Kentucky,' and his co-defendant William Duplessie will both be confined to undisclosed locations—Woeltz in New York and Duplessie in Miami—while wearing ankle monitors.
The case stems from a May incident where an unidentified victim escaped captivity and flagged down a traffic officer. The two suspects face charges including unlawful imprisonment, assault, and kidnapping. The incident has drawn scrutiny, particularly around the security protocols of New York City officials.
